Freebsd Commands..

Hello! I'm new to this forum, but it looks really in-active.. Anyways I'm wondering if there is a chart available, listing all the FreeBSD commands and options? I have installed FreeBSD on a computer once (don't have access to it right now), but I didn't understand more then the help command.. lol Also I tried to set up the Internet (the IP address and stuff) while installing, and I think it failed. I tried to start GNOME2 by writing the command "Gnome2&

Pc-bsd

After looking through this forum, I noticed nobody had commented about PC-BSD, which is in version 1.2 based on FreeBSD kernel 6.1. I have had some very good success with this system, admittedly using vmware-workstation, and I didn't even have to install it, as they provide a downloadable hard file that works with vmware-workstation as well as vmware-player. The GUI Desktop is KDE 3.5.3 and the site for further information is here One overrriding reason t

Openbsd Nfs

Okay, the setup is as follows, I am running two OpenBSD boxes in my room, "Skeletor" (master) and "Beastman" (the goon) And I'm wondering how to mount, say, my media directory on Skeletor (/mda) on Beastman via NFS. How do I go about this, as I have never used NFS before?

Linux User Needs Help Learning Freebsd

Recently, i decided that FreeBSD was somthing i wasnted to be able to say i could use, and afdmin comfortably. I was reading several comparasons between GNU/Linux (what i currently use) and f'BSD. Apart from the differences in the Licences, and they way they were developed, and of cource the history, they were very very similar. Ive used and become comfortable with several Linux distro's inclusing Linux From Scratch, Slackware, Gentoo Mandrake, Fedora/Redhat, and maybe a few others, LO

Freebsd. An Installation Report

I need hosting. Well, how to get those golden points? Hope you wouldn’t mind if I tell my FreeBSD story. A little foreword. I’m working in a pure MS shop, where Open Source is big NO-NO. Nevertheless I have a small test-bed LAN where I can test whatever I think is appropriate. Lately not the latest and greatest but quite decent server has been decommissioned. I had been using Debian Linux workstation already for quite a while, so I’ve decided to setup a Debian Linux server into W2k3 LAN. Honest

Openbsd Ppc:need Hlp To Enable Accelerated X "ati"

Hello, I'm not sure that many people on this board are OpenBSD users. and out of any, probably even less OpenBSD PPC users... But I'm running OpenBSD 3.7 on an Apple iMac DV (400MHz G3) and there's supposed to be a way to enable hardware accelerated X for ati chipsets, which I have. (Rage 128 series) But the help I found was a sample file for a G4 Powerbook... Does anyone know the proper things to issue to xorg.conf to get the accelerated ati driver working? Also, does anyone know

Installed Freebsd, Need Instruction For Gui

I'm at the beginning of learning about FreeBSD, and have installed the OS (version 5.4). I only made it to the black screen with text/command line. So I need those quick and easy pointers to get started with the graphical interface of things. So...how easy can I get a graphical user interface like mousecursor, windows, programmenu's and such (like in windows, ubuntu, mandrake and so on) working for my FreeBSD installation? I read some stuff about X11 and Xorg, but it seems quite complic

An Openbsd Adventure.

Well, the other day, I grabbed the OpenBSD Net-Install image after debian had a little too much fun with my drive, so I decided to start all over, with a OS I've never used before, so I chose OpenBSD. Why OpenBSD? I have no idea, honestly, I just felt like getting OpenBSD. So, after a sucessful net-install, I managed to get WindowMaker, and Mozilla going, along with grabbing a few other things and attempting to make them work, but I really dig the very basic system you get, and then add all
